Seth Meyers shared his horror at a much-criticised Republican campaign ad while also trying to understand why Donald Trump has become so fixated on men’s bodies of late.

The Late Night host said there had been “widespread bipartisan” outrage at a “despicable” new ad that has been causing controversy this week.

He started with footage of Trump at a rally, claiming the Democrats will undo all of the great work he has done if they were to triumph at next month’s midterms.

“All you’ve done is undo things!” Meyers responded, adding that “we had nice things” before Trump came in and ruined them.

Trump also claimed the midterms would be on 31 October before “a thing called November”, which Meyers said sounded like a book one would read to impress someone at a bar.

He also joked that if you said that after being pulled over by a cop, “they wouldn’t even give you a Breathalyser”.

Trump has been campaigning in deep red states but has been “unravelling” onstage, rambling again about not winning the Nobel peace prize while forgetting its name and calling it the Pulitzer.

“What other awards does this guy think he deserves?” Meyers asked before joking that he would expect a Tony as “I know so many Tonys.”

But on Wednesday he was “misfiring a lot” and made a bizarre sound that was “less like a president and more like a bullfrog”.

Trump has also seemingly developed “a bizarre fixation on men’s physiques” with Meyers playing a strange montage of the president describing men’s bodies. “The only issue he has left to campaign on is me likey what I see,” Meyers added.

Meyers said that Trump “sounds like a blindfolded bachelorette at a strip club” but he has “always valued surface over substance … he just knows marketing”.

There have been repeated references to men’s asses which Meyers shared with viewers before asking of Trump: “Why are you so weird?”

Meyers added: “No one cares if you can bounce a quarter off Jon Husted’s ass because thanks to inflation that quarter is worthless.”

Meyers joked that Trump sounds like “Samantha when she’s dating a new male model”, he said referencing the Sex and the City character. Yet with Texas candidate Ken Paxton, Trump has been “far less glowing”.

The Republicans are getting “desperate” and nowhere is that more obvious than in Ohio with candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, the “annoying tech billionaire that even Republicans hated when he ran in 2024”.

In his campaign for Ohio governor, he has been running “one of the slimiest and most disgusting ads in the history of politics” which uses the estranged mother of his opponent to claim she was lying about being sexually assaulted as a child.

“Have you ever seen a more insufferable prick in your life?” Meyers asked before saying the ad is “so clearly over the line” that even Republicans have been speaking out.

But instead, JD Vance has been attacking any Republicans who have called the ad out. “Is there no soul behind all that eyeliner?” Meyers asked.

Meyers added that the vice-president “revels in being an asshole but being an asshole has a cost”.
